McCain, Graham, and Warner

The New York Times has an article about Republican Senators John McCain, John Warner, and Lindsey Graham and their opposition to the Administration’s proposals for trying of terror suspects.
These three are military veterans, and they understand the slippery slope that the U.S. would begin going down if we were to unilaterally fail to abide by the Geneva Convention. Senator Graham also is a former military lawyer with deep respect for jurisprudence and civil liberties. Interestingly, Colin Powell has also spoken out against the Administration’s proposals.
I can only hope that this is the beginning of a return to reason on the part of our lawmakers. They and the courts are the only ones that can reign in this Administration. As George Santayana said, “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.” Let’s not let GWB and his cronies take us where we don’t want to go.
